The (Monetary) Cost of Gun Violence

Estimates from the Centers for Disease Control have been combined with unit costs from the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation’s (PIRE’s) widely cited injury cost model to determine annual costs of firearm violence.

• Total annual societal cost of gun violence in America: $174,000,000,000
• Total annual cost to taxpayers: $12,000,000,000
